Moving and Handling People 2019

Moving & Handling People is a CPD accredited event focussing on positive solutions for practitioners and clients.

Moving & Handling People is organised by Disabled Living Foundation.

Celebrating 50 years of DLF

Returning for its 25th year, the Moving and Handling People conference will be held at a fantastic new location on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th August 2019 , with more content and networking opportunities to keep your CPD fresh and up-to-date.

In 2019 the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) – founders of the Moving and Handling People conference – will be celebrating its 50th year.
We would like to invite you to reflect back on the past 50 years by looking at the developments of equipment and techniques within the world of moving and handling. What lessons have we learnt from past techniques and how this has informed our practice for the future?

The conference will include plenaries, seminars and workshops to give a range of learning options which all delegates will have opportunity to attend. We have also added new opportunities for those interested in paediatrics to attend a workshop more relevant to their field, with half the workshops having a separate adult’s and children’s strand to enable further specialisation.

New evening sessions for networking and knowledge development will be run to welcome you into the conference and give plenty of opportunities for growing confidence in the field. There will be a poster zone for new areas of research and techniques along with a separate space for new or bespoke equipment solutions in the field of moving and handling.

We look forward to welcoming you along to Moving and Handling People 2019 in Windsor.

Our all-new Programme for 2019

Celebrating our 50th anniversary is a great opportunity for us to refresh the topics and recruit new speakers and launch a brand new Programme. Delegates to the conference this year have provided excellent feedback about the challenges they face as practitioners and the topics they would like to see handled at next year’s conference.

Keynote address

Our well-known and respected keynote speaker will reflect on the history of moving and handling and will discuss the ongoing concerns that face us as practitioners.

The speaker will review the challenges facing us and provide a clear statement to motivate all of us to continue to develop and evolve practice, techniques and thinking.

Open forum

In 2019 we will be interactive with live questions, answers and feedback. This session draws on the experience in the room and combines it with a panel of experts.

Seminar one

‘The Competency Framework’ will share the experiences of a regional team that developed a framework.
They will share why it was needed, how they developed it and how it has benefited both staff and service users.

Seminar two

Our speaker comes from an acute setting. A case-study based talk will review the pathways involved locally in moving and handling and share insights from their experiences.

Seminar three

‘Focus on Hospice Care’ will examine the appropriateness of moving and handling at end of life, the techniques used and the emotional aspects of dealing with this specialist field.

Seminar four

Slings Special – this seminar will aim to review the techniques and benefits of slings including materials, shapes, testing and the latest theories.

Hands-on workshops

Workshop one

‘Focus on Hospice Care’ this practical session will deal with manoeuvres and techniques for both adults and children.

Workshop two

Risk assessment using real-life models. Real-time risk assessment based on genuine people.
